Exhausting weekend
Saturday was the church's chicken broil. I lazied in about 10:30 AM, but the outside setup was just starting so I put in about an hour then. Then I went back around 1:30, and the chickens were well on their way to done. Serving started at 3:00. We had a beautiful day and sold out all 480 birds by about 5:45. Cleanup afterwards is kind of fun because we pile all the grates up in one spot over the coals, and cram all the waxed cardboard boxes and then the charcoal bags, and the 20-foot-high flames get all the chicken grease and butter on the grates burning, and we just have to wire-brush off the ash and cover with vegetable oil with a paint roller to keep them from rusting before next year.
I finally got home around 7:30, and called my mom. The family reunion was Sunday, and I initially said we might go over the night before, but I wasn't up to the drive, or really anything more than just sitting/lying that evening.
L had a sleepover, so just T and I drove to South Haven for the reunion. I'm afraid T was pretty bored. Next time I think we'll bring at least the ladderball set or something. It was a beautiful day, and the lake is right there, but T isn't very into swimming.
We did go to Sherman's (EXCELLENT ice cream - the dairy has been there since 1916 and the bar up front has been serving for 50 years now), and T got to meet a very nice marbled Great Dane.
I was running on fumes all day, and by the time I got home I had nothing left.
The car's speedo was flaking out between Jackson and Battle Creek. J/L reported this behavior to me a few weeks back, but I hadn't seen it myself until then. I got some video (since it's a very elusive symptom, I wanted evidence if I wound up having to go to the dealer), and I think it's pretty clearly a flaky vehicle speed sensor. That SHOULD be $35 and an easy install, but I haven't done it before and the internet indicates that it MIGHT be necessary to slide an axle out to get to it. Hopefully not.
