Yay, less stuff!

Today I'm making a small but significant pile of stuff go away from me. My old bike taillight sold for $20 more than I paid for its replacement (though half what I paid for it originally). And I got rid of an old external hard drive, some laptop RAM and some more Palm Pilot stuff (all given away).

I've had a low-level goal to get rid of stuff that I realistically couldn't believe that I had an ongoing use for whenever possible for a few years now. But for the last couple of weeks I've been trying to get rid of something every day, even if it's just a DVD or two. Actually, to have a net decrease in the amount of stuff that I have. Often it's just adding something to the pile of crap in the unused master bath that's going to be dumped in the freebie pile at the next convention. It's getting pretty substantial. I did a bunch of sorting over the weekend, threw a few tens of pounds of stuff into recycling or the trash, and found floor that I haven't seen in months.

Odd thing: I usually don't go to the post office for a couple of months at a time, but today I have 4 packages to send. And on my way in to work with the boxes half in the bike basket, bungee'd in, I found a large padded envelope with an ebay/paypal prepaid postage on it, addressed from a Dexter PO box to Alabama. Apparently someone left it on top of their car or something. It was just sitting in the middle of the road. I'm going to the post office anyway, I'm going to drop it off there. I googled the guy and called him up, he apparently runs a small music store (sheet music, etc) out of his house in Dexter (about 1/4 mile from where I found the package) and had a load of stuff this morning, and must have just missed this one on top of his car.
