Bike maintenance

New chain on bike, old one was 1/16" out at 10" which the Park tool says is too much. Odometer: 6345

This chain went on at 4600 miles so this one lasted 1750 miles. Looks like 1800 miles is the right time to do the change. That means I should need another somewhere around the middle of October. An alert has been set in my calendar.

Looks like the cheapo chains from Nashbar (7.50 for a double-length chain, plus $1 for an extra second link, so about $4.25 each) last just as long as the SRAM I put on before.

At Duckon Dale mentioned that there was some need for long bits of bike chain for some water wheel project. I now have 3 old bike chains that we could piece together, though I'll have to clean and lube them. One of them is quite nasty with mud and sand.

follow-up: nashbar is now selling the single-length chain for $3.95 instead of $12, so it's cheaper to go this route since each comes with a link.
