Well, I was going to photograph it like I did the last one (only better) but I was in the middle of trying to get the new 750G drive installed in the MythTV box before Mythbusters started at 9AM, and it was being cranky. There were 2 250G drives in there and I couldn't remember which one was the primary so I had to boot several times to get things sorted. I did stick my nose outside a few times and look at it, and L took some pictures.

I got a pile of stuff today; the $10 MP3 players arrived today, they're pretty nice. I probably should have gone ahead and gotten 3 since T grabbed one immediately. From Newegg, the 750 showed up on Monday, and today I got a handful of SATA cables and a KVM switch for J's mom to use to switch between her Mac Mini and her old Dell. Also some eBay stuff arrived, spare battery and chargers for J's new phone, but the chargers are wrong, so we'll see if the seller makes good. I checked the description and it definitely says for this phone.

Anyway, the MP3 player is all loaded up with last week's Cartalk, Lucifer's Hammer on audiobook, the next 10 lectures on Biology from TTC, last week's Science Friday, and This Week in Science. At 1GB it's at least 2 or 3 weeks worth of listening.

The 2nd battery on the Zen Micro is dying. I'm probably going to let it die, steal the 8G CF from it and use it in my camera.

I missed the start of it due to repairing a recliner, but I thankfully I was able to get plenty of (bitterly cold) looks at it in various stages of greying and then red.

I see a pattern to that woot: M grabbed one before the day was out and now is ripping a bunch of CDs. (After a few primers on rip, mp3, and moving files onto the player.) Welcome to the 21st Century!

Well, this isn't our first MP3 player. I think the first was J's iPod mini (our first and last Apple player). J has now replaced her iPod Mini with a Samsung T10, which is a pretty damn sexy player. L has the T9 which is the previous version and is actually just as sexy but has a smaller screen I think, and the body is a bit larger (though both of them are smaller than a first gen iPod Nano).

L also had a previous Samsung which I think still works; it's very very tiny, smaller than the first gen Shuffle but the Samsung has a display (about the size of a kidney bean, but a display). It still works but it's only 1GB so she got an upgrade.

I originally got a Creative Zen Micro, which is fine but at several years old, the batteries are dying and it's more player than I need for my commute so I think I'm going to just steal the CF out of it and let it die. I also have a Zen Vision:M which is my "at work" and video player which has music, video of my tae kwon do stuff I'm supposed to be memorizing, and stuff like that.

T had a 512M player which was mine from a previous woot over a year ago (another Sandisk) - It has a problem though where sometimes it is very stubborn about connecting on the USB and you have to plug and unplug it a dozen times to get it to connect. Other than that it was fine so when these Sandisks popped up it was a no brainer to grab some. I'll probably grab a couple more if they come up again.

I think that makes 10 MP3 players lying around, not counting my Palm Tungsten. Right now I'm pretty much of the opinion that smaller is better; I use my $10 1G player far more than my $180 30G video player; it's small and light enough to use on the bike or on the treadmill, and if I drop and smash it, I don't really care very much.

I wasn't very clear in my comment--that "Welcome to the 21st Century" was to M who is just discovering the world of portable players.

The battery's wrong, as well. I took the phone when I went out today. Flipped it open in the car (to check for messages, etc) and it was dark. that's not right- I unplugged it from the charger just before I left. Pushed the power button, and the display comes up "Battery is required".
