HAH! Found you, foul solder joint
Feb. 27th, 2008 10:14 amMy eyes aren't what they might be but my camera has a killer macro mode.
Note the gap in the solder joints on the last 4 pins of the memory chip; this is consistent with working fine for months but failing after getting wet and vibrating a bunch.

I've wished for a loupe twice in the last week. 30x folding pocket loupes are like $5, I suppose I should go for it. Hmm, Amazon sells them in "office supplies" - nope, Staples doesn't have them.

Date: 2008-02-27 06:28 pm (UTC)Oh wait, I know. Rockefellers, halfway from Dexter to Chelsea on Jackson Rd is a rock hound place. I'm sure they would have them but not sure if they're open in the winter, or what their prices are.
If not there, I'll have to think some more. Maybe Ryder's hobby shop over in Ypsi.
I have a really good lens for doing this kind of stuff; it's about 2.5" in diameter and about 5/8" thick in the middle, so it's quite strong, but it's just a bare lens. I keep thinking I should build a nice brass steampunk-y frame for it but that's a job for someone with spare time.
