I drive the car to work so I can get to the post office and ship an eBay item and still make it home to meet the bus, because the guy is all wound up about getting it, and then the guy doesn't get the payment to me. I coulda ridden my bike anyway.

I don't look forward to hitting the post office though. I tried to get the 12x12 flat rate box I need, but they didn't have them out. So I'll have to stand in line just to get one, and the lines are stupid this time of year. Ugh, I should hold off my eBaying until after xmas just to not have to stand in line. Especially since they don't allow personal package shipping at work in December, because otherwise they'd have 200 personal packages a day going out as everyone pushed their line waiting off on the shipping people.

I tried to stop at the post office today at lunch to ship some things to friends in the UK and DE. The parking lot was full, with a line of cars out into the road waiting for spots.

Which post office did you go to? Dexter - oddly - got rid of most of its self-shipping capability back in October. I've been going to the main post office on Stadium to get supplies, and only doing the actual mailing in Dexter. (Add in getting mail for ConFusion from the Liberty Street office and I have three 'usual' post offices. What a concept...)

Dexter and Chelsea are really my only options. I go right by Dexter, but it was packed, and has been in previous December visits as well.
I may try Chelsea.
Chelsea is going to be moving out to the old Polly's store location soon, which will give them a huge amount of parking, tons of space and great loading docks. Their current building is a nice old classical stone building but it really is way too small.

I simply never get any closer to Ann Arbor than Dexter, for months at a time. Even if I were driving, there's no way I'd drive to Ann Arbor to use their post office. The lines aren't THAT long in Dexter, I've never had to wait more than about 15 minutes, so that's faster than driving to AA.
