Work, no progress

Yesterday I decided the carpets need cleaning. It's been about a year, I should have done them at least once already, but I've been letting them slip.
I spent a half an hour looking for the machine yesterday, and we finally determined that I never brought it back from the church where we used it to clean up basement flooding this summer. So I delayed the cleanup.
Got it this morning from church, loaded it up, and... no output. Wait, there is output - the water is flowing out of the bottom of the handle. Turn off, unplug, take apart - there's a cheap plastic hose barb broken off that threads into the heater block. The other one broke off as I was removing the block.
Spent an hour drilling it out, cleaning up the threads (thankfully I have a metric tap set now). Tomorrow I get to go to the hardware store and no doubt discover that I can't buy a metric hose barb. So I'll probably wind up drilling it out and tapping it again anyway.
Maybe tomorrow I can start cleaning the carpet.
