(saw Erik's post, my follow-up...)
I only rode twice this week. I had been riding 5 days a week but I decided I really should be trying to get some weights in too; my upper body could really use some work. Eventually I may try to do both on some days, but until school gets back in session, and Jenn can do her gym work during the day, there's not enough time.

I don't have cadence on my computer, and am running loose toe-clips so I don't spin like I could if I were clipless. But anyway, I decided to try to push up my average speed, so I displayed avg and instant MPH and tried to keep instant > avg as much as possible.

As usual, faster on the way in than the way back. That's largely because I'm fighting a headwind on the way back (though not getting a tailwind on the way to work in the morning). However, I also realized that on the way in, I sail through Dexter, but on the way home, I'm in traffic for a good 6 or 7 minutes, sometimes stopped (which I don't think the computer counts against me) but sometimes coasting slowly as traffic works its way through the lights, turns, backups and angle-parking in town.

Also on the way home at night I usually pull over into the subdivision right-turn lane, half way up the hill and coast slowly just out of town, letting a dozen cars pass; it's a narrow road with heavy bidirectional traffic at that time of day, and I'm headed uphill; if I don't pull over people try to pass me even if I ride in the center, so it's best to just let them by. I have never had any problems with traffic outside that one choke point so it's a reasonable concession I guess.

Anyway, Thursday's ride was the usual 10.55 miles each way. Inbound, 34:47, for an 18.2 MPH avg speed, outbound, 37:54 for a 16.7 MPH avg speed. The odometer is at 1045 for the year. My only goal at the beginning of the year was to ride at least 1000 miles. I suppose I could shoot for 2000, but that might get difficult as busy season at work approaches.

I'm not even going to talk about how bad my weightlifting specs are. I did push the leg-lifts a bit too hard I think, so it's just as well I'm not riding every day for the next few days.

I've really come to dislike driving when I could be riding, though. If there were a good safe way to listen to NPR when riding it'd be perfect.
