I hate when this happens. I think about a purchase for a while, think I have it all figured out, then order it, then realize it was a mistake just past the last possible moment.

No big deal in this case. I'm moving to using my laptop exclusively, getting rid of the desktop. I need a DVD burner though, so I ordered an external enclosure for it. I kind of hate having all this crud plugged into this laptop, but what are you gonna do?

Today it hit me; I remembered that Newegg has laptop optical drives, and a quick check confirms they have a very nice 8X NEC dual layer burner for $125, very reasonable I think, and it's gotten good reviews. I've been wanting a dual layer drive anyway, I bought my last recorder just before that tech hit. It would be a HUGE bonus to put this in; the current DVDROM drive won't read recordables, and it's not even a CD recorder, I have a separate drive (also internal, in the front bay) for that, which I could get rid of and maybe sell, and put a 2nd battery in there for the very rare occasions when I use batteries (I got some spares out of the junk pile at work; they only last 30 minutes instead of the 1.5 hours a good battery would last, but what the heck, they were free).

Anyway, I ordered Friday night. Newegg still hasn't packaged it, so it may not be too late yet. I sent them an email and I'll call them when they open tomorrow; hopefully I can cancel and reorder the drive with the remainder of the stuff (more ram and a USB hub for the laptop). If not I'll have to decide whether to keep the case or send it back.
