Roof, roof!
Sep. 20th, 2005 12:12 pmI just got off three days of roofing. Our church's parsonage had 33-year-old shingles that are rated for 20, and could not wait any longer for us to save up enough to pay someone to do it. So we got a dozen or so guys and started in.
So Saturday was tearoff and starting the first bit, Sunday was a 6AM to 8PM frantic slog with threat of rain the next day, Monday was 8AM to 3PM finish work.
So it's done. And yes, I still like to do roofing. I just don't want to do any more just now.
I got really, really good and tired. I haven't been that tired for a good many years; possibly not since my summer job on a maintenance crew some 20 years ago. I was able to get up in the mornings with no problem, and am not really all that sore or tired, though I was moving VERY slowly at the end of each day.
I think it's a good thing to do way the hell more work than you normally do for a few days in a row; I like knowing that there's a lot of reserve in there if there's ever an emergency.
My right wrist is pretty sore; doing the tearoff on Saturday really wrenched my right arm, and hammering for two days after that really inflamed my CT area. Ibuprofen and time will take care of that fine though, I'm pretty confident.
