One thing leads to another...
Feb. 6th, 2006 08:45 am...and worn bike chains wear out other stuff...
Gears skipping like mad under heavy accelleration this morning. How irritating. My own fault of course for letting the chain get that bad. But now it's time for a new freewheel. Luckily they're cheap. Also I can finally get rid of the useless 34 tooth sprocket that the bike came with; that's way too low of a gear, and too much of a jump from the previous 24 tooth gear just below it. When you shift into that gear it's like the chain just came off. I was very close to adjusting the derailler stop to eliminate that gear. I can't imagine anyone actually would LIKE that arrangement. At least I can make the 34T into a clock or something.
Anyway, a new 14-28 is on order. I would have liked a 13T on the high end to give me just a pinch higher gearing, but I couldn't find one that didn't also have the 34T low gear.
