I spent Friday working on my first AJAX mini-project. We are going to be incorporating some of this stuff into our product for next year, and I'm in charge of the server end, so I figured I'd do a quick project. Other than a lack of comprehensive XMLDocument examples on the web, this was one of those "damn that'd fun, and I get paid too!" projects.
Friday afternoon I "discovered" that 3600 miles is probably too long to ride a pair of crap $5 tires that come on the bike. The rear bulged out and the tube got holed. I had thought that "bump,bump,bump" was a wheel bearing. Had to change the tube once and patch a 2nd time. So now I'm running a brand-new pair of Bontrager Race Lite 32's. I can definitely feel the road more; these are pumped to 100PSI; the previous tires were 38mm wide and only 80 PSI.
Saturday was work day at church, where I got to haul stuff out of the basement for a few hours. My quads feel a little harder now.
Then Sunday I got to work on King's little car, for a brake issue. That thing's pretty fun to work on, after having just done the rear brakes on the minivan, which has truck brakes, the Aspire was a joy, because everything is just so small it's easy to do everything. I mean, the brake drums are the size of pie plates. The mechanism inside was wonderfully simple as well, though it was frozen solid (which was the problem).
Sunday evening we spent a couple of hours reviewing some old camcorder tapes, Kate had a good time watching video of herself as a baby/toddler/cute little girl, her little brother "back before he got irritating", and the dog when she first came home as a timid little puppy.
I just finalized the DVD from Berzerker 2003, the first one I've actually done anything with besides just watch the raw tape. I'm putting a "just the rocket launches and explosions" clip show at the end. That only lasts a few minutes per berzerker. There's enough room on a DVD that I'm thinking maybe it would be better to do previous years first, then when I do 2005, it can have a clip show at the end with all the previous years explosions on it. We have berzerker video going back to 1992. Sometimes I wish we all had time and energy to hang around for a day afterwards and trade video before going home; it's impossible to tape everything, and some camera angles are better than others.
The kids are home for spring break, and I think I'll take a day off sometime this week and go geocaching; we haven't been since last spring I think, and not much even then. If I pick a good day, it might be picnic lunch in the woods time too, since there's no bugs to worry about yet.
Anyway, lots of varieties of play in the last few days, and I'm looking forward to more outdoor work soon; we have lots to do in the back yard and my attention span is so short...
