Project progress
Jun. 29th, 2007 10:33 amNot a lot of progress on the trebuchet yesterday. Took the top beam down, cut a V groove in the top to accept the axle, decided it was better to shorten the axle a bit than countersink the lag screws farther. Decided to get a piece of 1" solid rod to go inside the iron pipe axle. It's a loose fit, but if it starts to flex it'll give it some backup, and keep the pipe from kinking and collapsing (I hope). I cut the final side support. Decided how I'm going to bend the threaded rods into axle U-bolts; I need a couple of cheap pieces of pipe which I'll buy today.
I need to build the weight box. I don't have a good design in mind, I guess I'll just get some wood and look at it until a design comes out. Mainly I'd like something interlocking so that the bottom won't just fall out under heavy load. Actually a design is sort of starting to form in my head right now, grabbing some paper and a pen...
On the house front, I moved a lot of crud out of the way and got 20 feet of wall in. Hopefully tonight I can get the outlets on it, then move all the same crud plus a whole lot more up against that wall, tear down the last wall that needs to come out, and keep going around the room. Eventually all that stuff is going to have to go somewhere else so the floor (and mainly, flooring) can go in. I can work around piles, but the carpet guys won't. Not sure where it'll go, but I suspect "garage" and "huge pile" will come into the picture. Assuming I can get the garage to where it can be walked through (it's full of lumber for the basement now).
I finally got to the end of my rope on manually driving masonry nails into the floor. I think I'm going to pick up one of those explosive nail drivers like we used at S&R's place. Those work really well, masonry nails don't. Of course, the glue is probably enough once it sets.
I've also got a lot of stuff I want to do outside, but I don't think it's going to happen this year. I'll just try to keep pace there until next year.
