Today's nature show
Aug. 3rd, 2007 09:18 pmWent out and did some weeding in the nearly overgrown garden this evening. I got all the weeds out from around the cucumber vines and discovered a couple of ready to pick ones, which made L happy.
Also went over and pulled weeds from around the pond. Most of the outside stuff needs much more attention; the treb really took all my attention for the month before the trip, and I just can't get motivated lately to do much, though I enjoy going out for the hour before sunset when it's cooler and pulling weeds and such.
Anyway, then I stuck my arm in the pond and pulled a lot of hair algae out, it was really choking things up. Went in to rinse my hands off after that mucky job, and had a lot of little brown spots (about 1/8" across) that wouldn't wash off.
Aw, isn't that cute? They're little bitty leeches! I showed them off to the others, then went and salted my hand. It was pretty funny to watch them squirm around. After 30 seconds of that they rinsed right off.
Guess we need some goldfish or something to eat the blasted things. T doesn't want to touch the water anymore. I don't really care, the algae still has to come out and the leeches won't hurt me.
