Sweet deal
Jan. 4th, 2008 02:48 pmI ride with a Bell Citi helmet, which is the cheapskate version of the Bell Metro. Apparently Bell is discontinuing the Metro, and several places are closing it out for $30 (normally $70). It is a very tough, utilitarian helmet, not speedy looking at all. It has accessories like a winter kit, rain cover, blinkie clip, etc, so it's very "fred"(*) so perhaps that's the source of its downfall.
Anyway, I have a new helmet on the way. I've been a bad boy, still wearing the one I crashed in a few months back. This is a bonus because the Citi only goes to 61 cm head size, which barely fits my head, and is tight with winter gear under it. The Metro goes to 63 cm, which is as large as I've ever seen a commercial helmet sized at. maybe I should buy two... Unfortunately it doesn't come with all the extras for $30 but I don't think I care.
(*) "Fred" is a cycling term for a utilitarian cyclist; someone who isn't in full racing kit; typically has a rack, bags with stuff, lights, is wearing street clothes, etc. In other words, they're dorks in a different way than the people calling them names are dorks. Yes, I'm a Fred.
