Bike decision
Sep. 8th, 2008 06:12 pmThe decision is, I'd like a new bike, but in the long run I might as well keep this one running too. So for now, I'm just rebuilding.
I ordered a new wheel, and a complete new cable set. I didn't THINK there were any major problems with my old cable set, but Jenn's bike has much smoother cables; the brakes and shifting are both easier and crisper.
Also, I'm thinking I might run full-length cable jackets rather than using open cables and the cable lugs; it's recommended to keep ice and moisture out of the cables in the winter. If I feel like making it look "pretty" I'll get some black zip ties :-)
At some point I may steal the wheels from this bike as starters on a new bike, but not for a while yet. I have a couple hundred bucks in bike expenses coming up; my old studded tires are EOL'd and the rough roads appear to have done a number on my lighting as well; I may replace one or both of the headlights soon.
