Neat software: VirtualBox
Oct. 11th, 2008 09:07 pmI just found out about an OSS/GPL program called VirtualBox.
It's similar to VMWare or VirtualPC - it allows you to run virtual machines on your computer, for testing or isolation or whatever you need it for.
It's nice to have a free software solution for this. Yeah, VMWare is mostly free but I still am happier running this.
I set it up today to run a virtual copy of Windows 2000, to use as a remote desktop to my work machine while still allowing the main part of the machine to do my home processes without interruption. This is all I've done with it, but it works very well so far. Apparently it does support USB passthrough at some level, but I haven't messed with that yet.
It has versions that run under Windows, Linux, Mac, or OpenSolaris.
