Today's (non)events
Oct. 19th, 2008 07:00 pmI thought I was going to finish burying the dog boundary wire today. I had about 1450 feet to bury, I had finished about 180 feet before I started today. I got about 1000 feet done, then I got to the back of the property which is choked with trash bushes that grew up since I originally buried the wire. So rather than finish the last couple hundred feet, I spent the last 2 hours with a chainsaw. Still not done, but a lot cleaner back there. I really should rip all that crap out and plant actual trees, and go back to mowing the whole yard (to keep the trash from growing) until those trees can get bigger. I think that might happen next year.
I probably should see if I can hire my friend's chipper; I have a hell of a lot of brush piled up now.
Audiobooks:
I got to book 10 of the Honor Harrington series, and the audiobook copy I had was abridged. I always try to avoid those, but had never actually listened to one, so I figured I'd try it.
It was horrendous. Complete waste of time, worse than not listening to/reading the story at all. Plus, Simon/Schuster's readers use some ridiculous accents. OK, I can easily believe that some planets would have vastly different accents than others, but when a planet is mainly settled by people from one region of old Earth and they all speak, for instance, German as their native language, I have a hard time with two natives of that planet speaking with wildly different accents.
The library doesn't list an unabridged version as available on their website, so I just went out to Baen and bought the ebook version.
