Camcorders
Nov. 9th, 2008 09:47 pmI have four camcorders on my desk right now. The HD which is just sitting there, the newer MiniDV which I'm capturing tapes from, the older miniDV which I'm capturing tapes from that were made by it after it got knocked out of alignment (which I didn't notice for a while) and the Hi8 player, which I'm streaming through the old DV camcorder. I've captured a small portion of the tapes, some from the last year, and some from 1993 to 1996. L kept coming in and watching video of herself from when she was 2 or 3 years old. Much laughter was generated as a result.
A Hi8 tape streamed to DV takes up about 26 GB (2 hours). I just may have a GB drive filled when I'm done. That's OK, because it's well worth $240 for a pair of redundant backups of this stuff, and I want to be pretty sure I'll be able to view the videos in 20+ years, when I probably won't be able to lay hands on a working Hi8 or miniDV player.
One of these days I need to get that Super8 projector running and cap that stuff too...
