Weird Palm observation
Nov. 17th, 2008 08:27 amI pulled my old Palm IIIxe out of the dustpile last night and put some fresh batteries in it. I am going to sell the Tungsten E - the III does everything I need the a Palm to do other than be a decent book reader, and I have a specialty device for that. I really bought the Tungsten for the better screen for ebook reading, and I don't need that anymore.
The weird observation is this - After something like 4 years of on-and-off use on the Tungsten, I never was able to do accurate or rapid Graffiti input on it - I almost always wound up reverting to the on-screen keyboard. Yet after 4+ years of NOT using it, I just picked up the III and effortlessly and rapidly entered a sentence with no errors.
The Tungsten shipped with Graffiti 2, which I didn't like, but I hacked it back to Graffiti 1 and even so it wasn't nearly as good.
I really fell out of using the Tungsten, and I think it's largely because Graffiti stopped working for me. I guess I'll see anyway.
[EDIT] - Old Palm IIIs seem to be a good choice for basic PDA needs - you can pick them up on eBay for about 5 bucks. If I wind up actually using this, I might pick up a couple of spares.
