I found a cell phone on the way home last night. The same cheap Virgin Mobile model that I have. I got it home, wiped the mud off, powered it up, and found the number for "Dad's Cell". It turns out to belong to a high school student in Dexter, and this is the 2nd time he's lost it. I handed it over to his dad in a parking lot in Dexter this morning. Apparently they're letting him stew for a day; they didn't tell him last night that his phone had been found, preferring to let him angst about it for a while as a lesson, I guess. The kid thought he'd left it, powered off, in his swim team locker. I suggested that someone else may have grabbed the phone from the locker and tossed it out the window of their car, it may not be the kid's fault.

Of course, as I told the guy when he said "I don't have any money for it" (I wouldn't have accepted any, anyway), the phone is only $15 new, and with VM it takes 5 minutes on the website to move the account to a new phone, so it's actually perfect for teens who lose phones.

I lost my (exactly the same model) phone about 3 months ago and someone turned it in to the police department, so I guess I'm even. But I did return a wallet with a bunch of money in it to the police department last summer; I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to lose my wallet now...
