johnridley: (Calvin vs Bike)
OK, the studded front tire was a good idea last week. There were a few ice patches, especially in the parking lot at work where the parking lot is all cracked, and there are tiny little artesian flows of water running out from many of them, leaving a sheet of ice when it's cold.

It's supposed to stay only just around freezing this week, and this has historically been about when I take them off for the year anyway.

This article on CNN confirms what we've talked about before; cycling (actually any moderate exercise) keeps you from getting sick as much, and makes the symptoms last typically 1/2 as long.

It seems to me (an many others) that getting the exercise in the cold air makes it even better. Some have speculated that it causes a lot of mucous flow in the throat and sinuses, and that flushes out stuff that might otherwise infect you.

They mention the rule that most folks on BikeForums follow; above the neck, keep going. If it moves into the chest, probably time to take it easy if not go to total rest time.
