Over the weekend I made up a new rule; I could not let an hour pass without throwing something away or in some other way making something in the house not be here anymore. Throw away, recycle, eBay, whatever.

I chucked about 2/3 of my computer parts into a freebie pile I'll be bringing to berzerker; lots of cables, some I/O cards like PCI->IDE (100 and 133 mhz) cards, one or two video cards (AGP), some DIMMs (probably slowish), 3.5" floppy drives, a DVD-ROM drive. All working stuff, I threw the garbage out long ago. If it doesn't go at Berzerker, it'll probably go to Windycon; if not there, it'll go into the hotel's dumpster.

I also threw either out or into the freebie pile several hundred CD-R and DVD-Rs, containing mostly AVIs and VCDs of documentaries and such, though there's about 2/3 of Red Dwarf in a collection that I really did spend a lot of time making back in the pre-DVD days. I long ago made a 4-DVD set myself that incorporates all of those VCDs anyway so I don't need the originals.

I spent a lot of the weekend prowling the house like a jackal looking for something to throw away. I even set little mini-goals like "the next thing that I see that belongs to me had better have a damn good excuse to be here, or it's going." I think I did accomplish some good, but it was probably just an excuse to not go out and clean the garage, which looks like a scrapheap.

Librivox short scifi collections, volumes 3,4,5,6,9,10 (missed 7 and 8 - the way the MP3 tags are, they're hard to select properly on my player)

Listened to these over the last couple of weeks. There are a number of repeated works in these collections, I only listened to (and list here) the first time they occur. The readings on these is quite spotty; quality ranges from decent to abysmal; a text-to-speech program would have been better in some cases.

Some of the old stuff is kind of interesting; for instance In the Year 2889 by Jules Verne, we've already far surpassed the technology he posits for that year. It does get old if there are too many 19th century pieces together though.
