johnridley: (Calvin vs Bike)
My bike computer (aka speedometer/odometer/etc) has been flaking out for a while. I kept adjusting the magnet but it finally totally crapped out and some testing indicated that it's the sensor (reed switch). Not much to be done about it but they do sell new mounts which is everything but the head (which is fine). Ordered one up yesterday for $12 at the local bike shop.

I'll have to keep track of days I've ridden without the comp working to keep my odometer readings up. It's not that critical but it's nice to know how many miles are on the components.

The tiller hasn't been working right all year, I've had to run it at half choke and it's weak there. Finally last night I pulled the carburetor off and emptied about half a can of carb cleaner into it, and used the air blow gun on it a bit and it seems to be running as new again.

Need to transplant a few more strawberries, some of the ones I did a couple of weeks ago didn't make it.

OK, I did a pretty decent amount of cleaning in the garage, built a whole new set of hanging shelves to hold the tents and folding chairs. Last year I put them in the attic of the garage, and when I took them down this year there was an ant nest in there, which I didn't see because it was dark, but I picked a tent up and a few thousand ants fell on me. Bleh. Also it's hot up there (like 130*F or higher) and that's probably not good for the tent fabric.

Also, I finally got the angle grinder out and got all the rust off the older of my two hand trucks, and painted one side with rustoleum. I'm going to have a royal blue hand truck, because that's what color I had in the basement.

Also spent about 3 hours pulling weeds. It's time I should have spent months ago, but better late than never I guess. I did discover that we've got some volunteer cucumbers growing. We plant straight 8s, which I believe breed true, so they should be OK. There are only 4 plants but last year a half dozen plants generated about 10 times more cukes than we could ever eat anyway.

Also sprayed roundup on a strip around the pond (being careful not to overspray or get any into the water) and I'll be putting down fresh mulch tomorrow over that area.

After dark I gave up and started moving stuff in the media room; the crud in there is never going to get properly sorted or any more of it thrown out, so I'm just cramming it into corners or against the walls so we can at least roll the screen down and use the projector.

The War God's Own by David Weber

That wasn't too bad, but it wasn't that great either. Pushed the story a little further along. I'm not sure if I'm going to bother going on with the series. Probably, but I'm not currently just dying to see what happens next.
