The year of the wasps
Sep. 27th, 2009 08:50 pmThere's a nest of wasps living in a crack in a basement window at our church, and I've been supposed to take care of them for 2 weeks now. Right after I said that I caught that cold, and even after a lot of the symptoms went away for the last week, I've still been feeling a bit run down (even today). Anyway, I figured I'd run out of excuses.
Today I built the equivalent for small cracks of the pressurized dust injector that I built for the attic wasp issue. The attic one had a 1/2" pipe. This one is just a plastic jar with a couple of holes drilled in the lid, a hose barb, and 6 feet of 1/4" poly tubing. Fill jar 1/3 of the way with Sevin dust, wait until dark when the wasps are all in the hole, poke the tubing in the hole, put air gun from compressor into the 2nd hole, and let fly.
The wasps didn't come out, but I blasted them for a good long time. They should be all good and dead by morning. If they're still about tomorrow, I'll hit them again. When they're done I'll caulk the crack back up again.
When I'm sure this whole thing works I'll post some pics of the dusting rig. It took 4 minutes to make, and would have only cost about $5 if I'd had to buy all the stuff (well, apart from the air compressor). I actually had all this junk lying around.
