'Twas a successful con IMO, though I viewed it largely from inside the blinkie room. The GT room got paid for with a little to spare, many thanks to Roxanne for capably doing not only the collecting, but also for wrangling a room exchange that left us with an excellent location and a better room. I'm sure everyone appreciated it. I would totally front the money for the room again, seeing 'yall and having the chance to chat in a group is far more than half the fun of the con for me.
Even though I've worked blinkies for an hour or three at a time before, being there for 10 or so hours a day was a learning experience for me; one of the more complex blinkies needed slights tweaks post-construction to be reliable, that had to be figured out. Another turns out to have a much easier construction method, which I discovered after bailing a poor lady out that had been struggling with assembly for over 2 hours and was about in tears. After sending her away to recover her wits and finishing it for her, I made a couple of refinements to the assembly procedure and the next one went together in 20 minutes and I think was the first one I've seen go together and work perfectly the first time.
Also, I got an interesting cross-sectional view of fandom psychological profiles in that room...
I actually didn't watch the Tesla coils this year. By the time I got there, there was a very dense crowd around, I said hi to a few folks, watched them warm up for a few minutes, but then went back inside. I'm glad that they got clear weather.
There were a few technical and planning glitches, but really not bad considering, and I think in the end things like that get forgotten in the enjoyment of the weekend, and I only hope that the people who took up the slack don't burn out from it.
