The thing had a VARIABLE SIZE front chainring for shifting and a band that wrapped around a channel attached to the rear rim that got pulled on for braking.
Mechanics on BikeForums say it's a minor nightmare to work on and it didn't really work that well even when new.
It's amazing what people can manage to get into production.
