I find every one of these very moving.

Because you know, you just have to have 2x4s.

Seriously, upcoming projects involving 2x4s:
Lamp bases for Duckon blinkie room
Peterson-style bluebird houses
Doggie ladder for our aging puppy to get up to the bed.

And I'm sure other stuff will come up.

Bike stuff

I've decided I absolutely need a repair stand. It's getting ridiculous working without one; the bike tipping over and ramming various bits into the pavement, bending stuff, landing on my feet and knocking over stuff.

I've ruled out < $50 crap stands, I'm deciding between $120 consumer stands and $200 low-end pro stands. Or just banging together some 2x4s. The main problem with 2x4 stands is that they'll either be anchored to the wall of the garage and therefore probably impossible to get at sometimes, or they'll be huge and unweildy, so they're probably out.

I will probably wind up with a $200 stand. The guy at the LBS is pushing the Topeak Pro, but it looks like that's a rebadged Feedback Sports BRS-80R, which in turn is an Ultimate Stands spinoff (the people who make professional sound equipment stands, made bike stands for a few years then spun them off). It does look like a nice stand, I can get it for $190 online with free shipping, we'll see what the LBS can do.

I think this is one of those times where I should just spend the money. It's the sort of thing that could be a pain in the ass to use and fall to crap in a few years, or be very nice to use and last forever, depending on quality.
