The gravel road near our house has just been graded and it's HORRENDOUSLY bad. Not only loose gravel but they didn't even properly level out the underlying bumps and washboarding, so the last 2 miles coming home last night were not pleasant. I took the other branch in today and it's better but still not good. I think I'll be adding a couple of miles to the ride and staying on pavement (Dexter-Chelsea Rd) until after we get some rain. The rain combined with cars driving on it pushes the stones down into the clay and levels out the gravel roads. Dexter-Chelsea is actually a very nice ride, it's smooth and relatively flat but has little traffic (so there are actually a lot of bikes on it at times).

I <3 tailwind
Apr. 15th, 2011 06:17 pmHee hee, took Dexter Chelsea road home today. Flat, smooth, and about a 12 MPH tailwind, so I was doing right around 30 MPH for a good chunk of the way. 'Course, it comes out in Chelsea, so I had to turn and head 4 miles north and back east again to get home, so it still took an extra 10 minutes than the normal route. But it was fun.
