Hm, that heat resistant glass is heavier than I thought. Apparently 4 sheets of it is more than 11 pounds. I'm a little concerned about extra mass on the print bed.

Lesse, glass (close enough) has a specific gravity of about 2.5. These are 3/16" thick or 4.75mm, the print surface is 215x240mm for a volume of 245 cm^2. 245 * 2.5 is 613 grams so that's 1.34 pounds.
Yeah, that's more than I thought but I suppose it is a rather thick hunk of glass. Worst case is I'll have to slow printing down a bit (or more like not speed it up, as I'm already printing at rather low speeds).

Is there anything better than getting new tools? Getting them on sale!

Anyone who ever has any need for precise measurement should find their nearby Harbor Freight and pick up one of the 6" digital calipers (lower right). On sale for $12.99, and as far as I can tell, about as accurate as the Mitutoyo above it, and actually comes in a nicer case. I mainly bought it because it's kind of essential for running the 3D printer (or for designing new stuff from existing objects) and I didn't want to carry the Mitutoyo to conventions.

Do not get the composite version - accuracy is only 0.2mm versus the stainless steel model's 0.03mm (6.7x worse) and even at normal price it's $10 versus $20, right now at $13 the steel model is a given, especially since the carbon fiber model doesn't come with a case.

And the stainless steel rulers - stamped not just printed, with a cork base, inches and millimeters (can't get them without inches here, oh well) for $1.99 - I bought 4 (one for Tom).

Why is it that I loooove measuring tools, especially shiny ones?

The bench vice - well, I wish it had a clamp instead of the vacuum base, but they all seem to have that base. I guess I can paint some polyurethane onto a corner of my bench to give it something to stick to. Most of the time just the weight of the base will be enough anyway.
