Glass is heavy (G+ post)
Sep. 17th, 2011 07:24 pmHm, that heat resistant glass is heavier than I thought. Apparently 4 sheets of it is more than 11 pounds. I'm a little concerned about extra mass on the print bed.
Lesse, glass (close enough) has a specific gravity of about 2.5. These are 3/16" thick or 4.75mm, the print surface is 215x240mm for a volume of 245 cm^2. 245 * 2.5 is 613 grams so that's 1.34 pounds.
Yeah, that's more than I thought but I suppose it is a rather thick hunk of glass. Worst case is I'll have to slow printing down a bit (or more like not speed it up, as I'm already printing at rather low speeds).
