City of Boston pays $170k in civil suit to man arrested for video recording police

Not only were all of his charges dismissed, he won the civil suit. The court found that keeping people from publicly recording police action violated both the first and fourth amendments.

It's crap like this sort of arrest that led me to joining the ACLU earlier this month. OK, so I'm slow. I get there eventually. I may pry some money loose for the EFF later this year as well but I think the ACLU has to be the first priority.

I like the 808 camera well enough that I've ordered another one, so I can have front and rear facing video. I am thinking about figuring out a waterproof enclosure as well. I've seen some crystal clear plastic boxes that might work. It would have to be openable easily to turn the cameras on, and it would have to hold the AA cell power supply as well.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I think having the rear-facing video is important. I've had a couple of instances where my actions on the road are really only sensible if you can see what's happening behind me, otherwise they look bad.
