New drivetrain results
Apr. 2nd, 2012 01:31 pmI suppose not surprisingly, the bike is now noticeably smoother under power and requires less energy to move. I really wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference, but I had a fairly fast 39:30 commute this morning, I've been averaging around 43:00.
If nothing else, not being able to feel each sprocket tooth as it goes by is new.
I'm getting a little bit of gear hop, I need to tweak the derailleur alignment with the new cassette in there. Apart from that all is well.
Last night I ordered a small 12V lead acid cell, I'm going to toy around with installing a car horn to replace the AirZound. The AirZound horn is OK, quite loud, but it doesn't work at all in cold weather, and after a year or two it gets weak even in warm weather. When I need a horn, I want it to work, not have to guess if it will work or not.
I was considering using a LiIon battery pack, but the instantaneous 6 amp draw required by a car horn makes me nervous. Also the battery is just over a pound and lead acid is pretty bulletproof and easy to charge.
The horn and battery together should weigh about 2 pounds.
