I just went and got fingerprinted by the school district in order to be able to work with the kids in Robotics class. The signature agreement says that I also had to release my prints to the FBI and any other federal agency that wants them for pretty much whatever they want to use them for.

Talking about this here at work, one of the guys has the same general attitude I do about this; even *I* don't care what I'm doing, if there are people in the government that care, then wow.

It's not the ideal attitude, but if I want to work with the robotics team, it's going to have to suffice.

BTW 25 years ago to get a pistol permit I just needed an ink thumbprint on an index card. This one is a full 4 finger set (I assume for finger length biometrics) then all 10 digits full left to right roll, on a fingerprint scanner (no ink), and the system immediately displays if the scan is good enough.
