What to read next
Mar. 10th, 2013 08:33 amOK, I have a question.
How do you find out about new authors that you might like? I have been doing a lot of reading of Hugo winners, reading the classics, etc, but I can't help thinking that I might be totally missing out on excellent authors. I just wonder if there's something I'm missing. I find Goodreads' recommendation system to be pretty bad despite my having poked in ratings of hundreds of books.
There's always the chance that it was right and the few recommendations that I followed were authors like Stross, who I find writes both some of the best and some of the worst (IMO) stuff I've read in the last decade.
I have a lot of books on my read pile (well, queue really, I haven't touched paper in years), but I'm constantly rearranging the order and slipping new authors in at the top. I don't get through a lot since my read time most days is limited to about 10 minutes before bed so it takes me at least a month to get through a book.
