I just hit my Amazon wish list as I do every couple of days to see if anything has dropped in price enough to trigger my clicky finger. The Asus touch monitor is down from $350 to $300 but I'm not really ready for that yet.

Then I noticed that the AKG K550 reference headphones that I have been watching dropped from $205 to $129 with free shipping. I did not delay. OK, they're coming from London and on a slow boat, probably 2+ weeks delivery, but WTH.

I've been using the Bose QuietComfort 15s for a few months, but the full noise cancelling actually bothers me if I wear it more than about 20 minutes at a time, and there's no way to turn off the noise cancelling. I switched back to the old Sennheiser HD202 cheapos, and they are adequate but they don't seal well, sound just OK and aren't very comfortable.

A friend at work is an extremely knowledgeable headphone guy, he carries K550s with him daily and I've tried them out both with and without a headphone amp. He says he paid $250 for his.

I also picked up a Behringer USB sound interface, which has both a headphone amp and a phonograph pre-amp. Because the machines at work are from Dell, and from what I can tell they make their D/A converters out of wet cardboard and rusty nails.
