A little less social please, @audible_com
Apr. 10th, 2015 11:16 amI've moved back to using my Sansa Fuze to listen to Audible audiobooks. Turns out that Audibles apps, all of them as far as I know, PC, Android, etc, actually report back to home base every minute that you're listening to audiobooks and what you're listening to, where you are in the book, etc. I found this out because they started sending me emails with content like "Congratulations, you have finished 10 audiobooks, here's a gold star" and more such drivel.
So since I have a Sansa Fuze and it's an excellent, excellent audio player, and it is Audible compatible and doesn't even know what the internet is, I'm using that now. Audible probably knows that I pushed the audiobook to a Sandisk device but hopefully that's it.
It probably wouldn't bother me that much, but they're always trying to get me to be in their happy little fun social media club and friend everyone so everyone can see what I'm reading, and I can hear happy little fun points and get little fake internet medals for reading, etc.
Screw that. Sell me the goddamned audiobook and leave me alone.
I might put an eBay watch up for a Clip+ auction and see if I can pick one of those up. The original OLED non-touch version, you know, the good one, before they progressively made it worse with every generation.
And yes, I take steps on ebooks as well. I buy from Amazon and even read on a Kindle, but I crack the DRM and side-load the content as a MOBI directly on USB so I think probably they're not getting that much meta-data on me. In fact at this point I've switched away from the Kindle to an independent app on my tablet so they should be getting nothing.
