★★★★★
Near the end of this book, I realized that I'm now on the leading edge of THREE series where Earth is pretty much fucked; this one, the Laundry Files and the Expanse series.
OK, there's still a chance for Earth in at least this series. And probably the Laundry books.
Anyway, good read, good military SF, which I enjoy. It had just the right amount of military detail (not really much) so it didn't get bogged down in minutia. The characters are very likeable, from the commanders to the grunts and the local constable.
I was debating 4 vs 5 stars for this, I decided to rate it within the subgenre of military SF, where it gets 5, rather than putting it up against the likes of Moby Dick for example, where basically nothing would get 5 stars.
