A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L'Engle

★★★★☆

Good young adult fantasy. I like this genre. It has to be taken for what it is, but this is some of the better writing I've read in the genre. The characters feel real, which is sometimes lacking in YA, too often even in popular YA fantasy the characters feel like cardboard cutouts. Not so here.

Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer

★★★★☆

Be aware that this book does NOT finish the story, not even a part of it. You'll be reading the 2nd book to finish it.
That said, this is an ambitious story with some pretty interesting takes on mid-future society (25th century). It has a lot of characters that are hard to decide whether I like them or not. I will be reading part 2 when it comes out. I don't think I could really vote for this as a best novel, not until I read part 2. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt, but as it left off, it could be stunningly good or horrible. I think it will be good, but who knows?
