Various things
Jan. 24th, 2023 05:52 pmI'm in the process of (hopefully carefully) reassembling my work/play room, with an eye to not allowing the seeds of heaps of junk to form. I repurposed some previously disused shelves to go in a previous junkheap-magnet space under the TV.
I have taken the oldest laptop I have and moved the security camera software to it. It barely can run it (93% CPU all the time). I'm also going to attach a spinning drive to it, I have an old 500GB one sitting around, to use it for camera motion detect saves.
That used to be my travel laptop but it's getting old in the tooth and the hinge is starting to fail in a way that I can't really repair.
I reset windows to fresh install status on the newer laptop and will probably use that for travel. It's a Dell Latitude and should be plenty robust.
I intend to use the main computer to run Fulgaz which is what I use with my bike trainer. I was running that on the old laptop but it's so slow it was nearly unusable. I had some trouble at first when I put my 3rd monitor output to the A/V receiver - when I switched inputs on the receiver it caused the PC to blue screen. Running HDMI straight to the monitor seems to have solved that issue.
I'm digging through the "heap of junk" boxes, big Rubbermaid totes I used to just scoop up all the junk in the room to get it out. There's stuff in there I need, like the power supply for my flatbed scanner, but also a lot of junk I need to sort through with an eye to just trashing some percentage of it.
I also want to put some stuff on the walls. There's a fair amount of space on the south wall that could take artwork, a single high shelf, or maybe some of both.
