Well, if I couldn't change bike tires, I couldn't fix a flat either (the two operations are identical except when changing, you put a DIFFERENT tire back on). And fixing flats is a mandatory skill for anyone who goes more than about a mile from home.

It takes $3 worth of plastic tire levers, a pump (which you need anyway, bike tires go flat) and about 10 minutes to learn how to do. I taught an informal class out on the back deck at work on a "ride to work" day a few years back. Several people there said "that's all there is to it?"
