The Guns of Avalon by Roger Zelazny
Book 2 of The Chronicles of Amber

A friend at work clued me in to The Great Book of Amber, the omnibus (and somewhat edited/corrected) version of CofA, so I switched to that version after finishing Nine Princes. I dunno if it's any different. It is discouraging to see "Page 500 of 3255" on the bottom of the reader (I have the fonts a little larger so that drives the page count up).

Anyway, good story so far.

The nice thing about the majority of Zelazny's books is they weren't bricks. They usually ended up being 200 or 250 pages long, a solid read and short on fluff. I wish that more authors had that tight of a writing style or at least a better editor.

True, but in my case the 300 or so books that are in the SD card in the reader don't weigh much...

It is nice to wrap one up relatively quickly though.

I think what I learned to like about it most over the years was the tight writing. People like Modesitt and Jordan reminded me that good fantasy does *not* require all of the words in the dictionary to be good stuff. I probably would have enjoyed their works at about 1/3 the volume.

(And in the case of Modesitt, just learning that it was the same book over and over again by reading them in a batch rather than years apart.)
