Sep. 8th, 2009 08:02 pmOn an astronomy forum today, someone asked how to install software that insisted on being installed from a DVD drive to a netbook with no DVD. Of course the immediate response was the less-than-helpful "go buy a DVD drive" but I came back with "Extract an ISO file, throw it on a thumb drive, then mount that with Daemon Tools.
Someone came back with the valid point that Daemon Tools has gotten into bed with some spyware companies - I think if you answer installation questions properly, you don't get infected, but one can never be sure.
Anyway, a little googling came up with this. It's an unsupported app from Microsoft, really it looks to me like an MSDN sample driver app but what the heck, it appears to work:
