Anathem by Neil Stephenson

I enjoyed this quite a lot. Very good reading, good story. I can see where some reviewers found it to be somewhat dull, but given a good reading it worked quite well. Definitely glad I did this one on audio.

The standard gripe is the plot doesn't start until page 300, but I love when an author throws you into a world and lets you figure it out - at least, when it is done well.

Here, it was. I really liked this book

Pretty much my feelings. There are books where the author decides to just write down all his world building notes as backstory and that's all just noise that could have been omitted. This isn't one of those. The action part of the story is richer and possibly only really understandable properly if you've been through the first part of the book.

The first bit was a good story anyway, so I don't know what the problem is. Just because it's followed by another even better story, people complain?
