Some brilliant guy managed to wedge a truck under the railroad bridge in Dexter yesterday. It's a beautiful old stone bridge, and there's plenty of room for something like a UPS truck to go under, or two of any kind of passenger vehicle to go through at once, but not so much a 15 foot tall truck.
Someone manages to wedge a truck under there a few times a year. I assume that they're NOT professional drivers.

I called out to the deputy diverting traffic "Can I go through?" He said "Sure, you'e the only one that can."

Once in a while even on my route, the bike isn't slower than a car.

There was a recent poll on bikeforums about car versus bike speed. For people who live in cities, it's usually "about the same", maybe 5 minutes slower on a bike, often much faster on a bike.
For me there's no contest; I have no stop signs or lights to speak of except for about a mile through Dexter, so a car is much faster, about 20 minutes versus 35 to 45 minutes (depending on conditions).

Damn, that hasn't happened in years. Last time I actually saw one is a good 15 years ago, when a full semi got stuck in there. He must have been doing a helluva speed, because he literally bent the trailer.

Two or three years ago a smaller truck actually made it through, sans roof and the top of many many boxes.
