One brought back to the flock
Sep. 9th, 2005 12:39 pmThere's a 50-something woman at work who is fairly liberal, environmentalist, etc, as is her husband. She has ridden her bike on the road before, but had not for many years. I've been gently cajoling her for over a year to get her back in the saddle.
Last night she promised she was going to do it today. I was kind of worried last night that she would have a bad experience and wouldn't continue; she rides down Jackson from the direction of Ann Arbor to Baker, about 6 miles in total. Now, I consider Jackson road to be a VERY easy road to ride on, but that's because traffic doesn't scare me. The lanes are wide, there are 10 foot wide shoulders down a lot of it and bike lanes once it gets within 5 miles of Ann Arbor. But the traffic is fast and I guess it could scare people. I like fast traffic; it makes a tailwind.
Anyway, this morning she had her bike outside the door and a smile on her face! I said "How'd you do?" She said "35 minutes!" No problems. Whew.
