The witches have returned from abroad, Magrat is marrying the king, some young girls have decided to teach themselves witchcraft but have accidentally opened a gateway so that elves can enter the world. The rest of the book is the witches fighting the elves. Magrat starts channelling the ancient (and unbeknownst to her (but knownst to us)) fictitious barbarian queen.
