Book 10 of the Honor Harrington series
This is the book that my friend advised me to skip because it was too boring. It WAS long (8xx pages on paper, 1554 on the Sony reader), but honestly I enjoyed it. It is clearly a pivotal and important piece in the universe. Lots of things changed, lots of the minor players in the universe were fleshed out a bit, and honestly I found myself pulling for the "bad guys" more than once. This book pumps up a ton of new directions for future books to go in.
If you recall, I previously did this as an abridged audiobook, which I thought was atrocious at the time because it seemed very disjointed, and Weber just doesn't write like that. Having now read the full book, yes, the abridgement work was absolutely that bad. I posted on Amazon that it seemed like they abridged it by throwing the pages in the air, picking up 10% of them, putting them back in order and reading them. Honestly, if you don't have time to read/listen to the whole book, you'd do better by going and reading the Wikipedia summary than bothering with the abridged audiobook. You'll get more out of it and you can be done in 15 minutes.
The book itself is actually as good as the rest of the series (though you do have to be the type that likes investing in universe building in order to fuel subsequent books).
