Dragging an anchor
Nov. 28th, 2005 06:41 amStudded tires on, odometer 1541 (2005 miles, overall odometer 3906).
A little muddy this morning, should be a lot muddier tonight :-)
DAMN those studded tires are dragging. Not only are they studded, they have a thicker and more aggressive tread and run 40 PSI; my normal tires are almost slicks, and I run them at 80 PSI.
I had convinced myself that the winter slowness was a combination of factors, but now I think it's almost all caused by the tires. There was a very slight headwind this morning, I would normally have expected about a 36 to 38 minute time for the 11 mile trip without undue effort. It took 47 minutes, and I was feeling it the whole way. Oh well, I get a better workout I guess.
Felt the start of a cold yesterday morning, a little more today. Unfortunate, catching it when I'm taking 4 days off the bike. Hopefully it hasn't gotten a deep grip yet, so I can burn it off pedalling. I'm supposed to be giving blood on Thursday, but that's probably out at this point. I seem to catch slight colds perfectly in schedule with on-site blood drives.
