I went to Lowes last night with L, mainly to price out materials options for the start of finishing the basement (which will be done in stages). At this point I'm weighing subfloor options. There are some pretty nice plastic underlayment materials, one of which rolls out under plywood, which means the floor could be down in about 2 hours and would only be about 1" thick. I'm going to calculate cost per square foot though; I wouldn't mind a little more work if the floor was warmer. 3/4" styrofoam is R 4.0, the plastic is probably hardly anything, maybe R 0.5. It does have some air trapped. But OTOH with 3/4" T/G OSB and insulated walls, the room will probably be plenty cozy anyway.

Lumber is cheap right now. As J pointed out, there were no hurricanes this year, and it's off-season. 2x4s in particular are $1.99, so L and I loaded up 50 of them; it's a start. We'll need more later but I don't want to pile up a lumberyard in the basement.

We also found a very pretty chandelier that we'll probably pick up (along with matching fixtures for other first-floor locations) later this month. I'll have a little work to do since the current dining room light has electrical service near one wall and a swag over to the center, which IMHO is really quite ugly. I personally don't think this was a "feature" but a bug; they just didn't take into account the wall that we moved when we ordered the house, and put the electrical box where it "normally" goes on that design and threw in some extra chain to make it look intentional.

Of course, we started brainstorming about a large shift of room functions, so it's possible that a few months after I get the light moved, we may move it again to another room. But I think that light can work just about anywhere.
