I just finished the all-day first aid class at work. It was really jam-packed even at 10 hours long; it was the full book, everything from bandaids to AEDs to epipens to infant CPR.

What I'm impressed at is that CSI saw how interested people were in taking the class, and they went ahead and spend something like $9000 buying all the equipment; a full set of dummies, adult, youth and infant, AED training sets, plus all the classroom materials and they pay the instructor, who works in security (retired cop & EMT), to keep his instructor's certification, and they buy the class meals. The class is free for employees.

They've also spent a ton on safety equipment; for instance we have 5 AEDs in the three connected buildings; as the instructor said, Michigan Stadium seats 100K or whatever and has two. Admittedly when they have a game going on they also have a couple of on-site ambulances, but still. I'm usually pretty cynical about work, because what the heck, it's fun, but in reality they treat us pretty well.

With a setup like that, as J says, it's not too surprising that a lot of people take the class, but even so, it's giving up either a whole Saturday or 3 nights, so the fact that our class took the company over 100 certified out of 900 people in the company is impressive, given that hardly anyone is actually required to be trained.
